The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country is the region’s philanthropic endowment, created to support charitable and civic efforts now and for the long term.

The Community Foundation’s mission is to foster a thriving Hill Country, inspire greater giving, celebrate legacy and heritage, and steward charitable resources for today and tomorrow. The Foundation’s stakeholders envision the Texas Hill Country as a vibrant community with opportunity for everyone. Future generations of the Hill Country will proudly inherit a hopeful, prosperous region where generosity and collaboration abound to create lasting improvement. Its mission and vision have guided its work for decades.

In 1981, a few forward-thinking residents of the Hill Country embarked on a journey to establish perpetual philanthropy. Their efforts have been wildly successful and many residents in the area have reaped the benefits of their vision.

Mrs. Alma Dietert gave the first gift of $5,000, and she continued to contribute during her lifetime and later, through her estate. Other area residents followed Mrs. Dietert’s lead, and the Community Foundation now trustees assets of more than $26 million.

The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country works with donors, makes grants to nonprofit organizations, and awards academic scholarships to students in 10 Central Texas counties: Bandera, Blanco, Edwards, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Mason, Real and Uvalde.

We are accepting applications for Home Maintenance and Repair.
This includes “A Brush with Kindness” which is an exterior preeservation service that offers painting, landscaping, weather stripping and minor repair services for homeowners in need.
• Habitat selects partner families based on income, need and willingness to partner.
• Habitat affiliates use volunteer labor and donated materials to keep costs low and take no profit for their services.
• A no-interest loan is made to the homeowner to cover the cost of the project. Payments are placed in a revolving fund to help A Brush with Kindness serve others in need.
• This program would not be possible without the generosity of Valspar, the cofounder and underwriter of the A Brush with Kindness program.

And Home Repair
Home Repair is a set of repairs to an existing home, based on an audit that makes the home a safe and decent place to live.

Home Repair is a four-step process:
1. A Pre-Repair Audit –shows where and what the problems are.
2. The Work –is based on the audit, and work needed to ensure the health and safety of the occupants.
3. Ability to repay the cost of repairs – The repair cost is paid back through a no interest loan to the home owner.
4. Homeowner Education–helps the partner family understand the changes in their home and allows them to maximize the financial benefits of those changes.

Home Repair helps low-income homeowners, who struggle to pay their energy costs, by creating safe and energy-efficient homes. Home Repair is part of Habitat’s broader community development strategy, a holistic approach, which assists communities as well as families. It helps revitalize neighborhoods by creating affordable, safe housing and improving the comfort and wellbeing of families.

Our programs provide a judgment-free zone where all learners – regardless of skill level, background, or economic status – can try new things, build their confidence, and envision themselves as the leaders of tomorrow.
